Gabriel’s return to Supernatural after a full 8 years of uncertainty was as unexpected and delightful as any of us could have hoped, and despite how heartbroken we are at the unsatisfying way his story came to a close, we’re still grateful for the short time that we got to spend with him again.

With fanzines seeing a rapid rise in popularity, we couldn’t think of a better time to come together and celebrate the fandom’s golden boy in the grandest way possible.

What’s a zine?

A zine is a self-published booklet of art and/or writing that is circulated through a small group of people. A fanzine is a non-official, non-professional publication of fanart and/or fanfiction made through collaboration and either distributed freely as a PDF or sold for profit or charity.

The Trumpeter will be a non-profit collaborative fanzine filled to the brim with exclusive fanart of Gabriel! It will be for sale as a PDF, 10in x 10in physical artbook, and (tentatively) a deluxe bundle with extra merchandise and goodies!

All profits made will go to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital! Richard Speight Jr. has publicly supported this cause and we would love to give something back in respect and gratitude for the fantastic job he has done bringing Gabriel to life.

Any and all artists are welcome to apply! You don’t need to be active in the Supernatural community or caught up with recent episodes (though there may be spoilers inside!); as long as you love Gabriel we would be happy to have you!

Artist applications open June 1st, 2018!

We’ll be using the next two weeks to get the word out and gauge interest! Please use this time to:

I am so signing up for this.

Hey @iamkathastrophe and @sammy-spirit-winchester and @osnaart you guys should get it on this!

Good morning, @thecwspn. This is our last-ditch effort. We urge you to reconsider your decision not to pick up Wayward Sisters for a series. But in the event that the following reasons don’t interest you; what’s up, @netflix? Here are some reasons that Wayward is valuable, viable, and unlike anything that has come before. It would be a no-brainer for you to pick up this show.

First of all, the idea of Wayward was imagined by and advocated by the Supernatural fandom. That’s an important distinction because it means that this show comes with a built-in fan base.

Our aim was better representation for women and minorities. We wanted more diverse casting and storytelling. We wanted better inclusivity for people of color, LGBT+ people, and people with varying physical and mental abilities.

We wanted positive female role models. Not just for girls, but for everyone. A sheriff and adoptive mom doing her best to support her gaggle of struggling teenagers. A powerful leader who fights self esteem issues but who brings a smile to everyone’s face. Girls who pull themselves out of the depths to fight for their families, for what is right, for each other.

We wanted to see better relationships between women. Tired of the tropes of cattiness, pettiness, and the inability for women to support and relate to one another, we instead believed in a show with women mentoring other women, empowering and uplifting one another. We wanted girls kicking ass but still being vulnerable, because strength can be found in both. We wanted episodes that could pass the Bechdel test.

We loved Supernatural. We wanted it, and more.

We campaigned heavily for a Wayward Daughters spinoff for two years. But in the mean time, something incredible and unexpected happened. We formed a community. We Wayward misfits found a family in each other. And suddenly all of those things we wanted in our media, we were suddenly embodying in our own lives and among each other.

This is when we became Wayward AF. We were empowered in our struggles, in our idiosyncrasies, in our differences. We were Wayward, not lost. Together, we were powerful. Tens of thousands of pieces of Wayward-themed merchandise were purchased from @shopstands benefiting various charities. We banded together to help @randomactsorg build a free high school in Nicaragua, assisted New Leash on Life, USA in rescuing, training, and rehabilitating part of a class of service dogs and their inmate companions, knit hundreds of baby hats for premature babies the in NICU, wrote birthday cards to kids who just needed a friend, and many more projects dreamed up by the community itself.

We grew and grew and grew. Before there was even a pilot announcement, Wayward Daughters fans on social media were 20,000 strong. Once we watched the pilot, we were hooked. We needed more. And we weren’t the only ones. This petition started less than a week ago has nearly 73,000 signatures. 1.7 million people were reached with a thunderclap to Save Wayward Sisters. That is our reach. That is our impact. We, the fans of a show that doesn’t even exist yet. A show that had one episode.

Listen. Maybe heartfelt pleas and touching stories aren’t your bag. But when you get down to it, Wayward Sisters would make you a front-runner in diversity, inclusion, and empowerment. Just think about it: in today’s climate, a show starring six women— one third of whom are racially diverse, one third of whom might be LGBT+, and one third of whom are over the age of 35, but still kicking ass. And that last part is important. Despite the CW’s target demo being primarily 18-25, 53% of Wayward’s fan base is over the age of 25.

This show is viable. It is valuable.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s the creator of Supernatural talking about how we should fight for Wayward Sisters. Here are links to nearly every recurring cast member (and crew as well) throwing their hats into the ring to support the show: Misha Collins, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Sam Smith, Ruth Connell, Rob Benedict, Richard Speight, Matt Cohen, Rachel Miner, Alaina Huffman, Shoshannah Stern, Julian Richings, Lisa Berry, Davy Perez, Robbie Thompson, Jim Michaels (we’re probably missing a few.)

The point is, we, the (perhaps small, but definitely) mighty fan base of Wayward would watch religiously. We would recommend it to our friends. We would buy merchandise. We would really, really appreciate it if you would save Wayward Sisters.

PS— Netflix, this is just between us. If you picked it up, we’d love it if you’d use the correct title. Wayward Daughters. Just sayin’.

PPS— Netflix, that postscript is, by no means, a deal breaker.

~~~~~~~
Sam’s dreams were filled with light.
It was bright, brighter than he’d ever seen, blocking out every other sight around him. He squinted, holding his hand up, trying to shield his eye so he could see where it was coming from. The light enveloped him fully, making him feel like he’d sunk into a warm deep bath. It was all around him, seeping into his very skin.
“All I did on earth was run, I’m not running any more.”
The words reverberated around him, and with every syllable, the light dimmed until Sam could finally see where it was coming from.
Gabriel
The light was coming from Gabriel, and the angel blade buried deep in his chest.
Time seemed to reverse as the events of the last day flooded in. Sam was drowning in them, trying to keep afloat in a sea of torment and guilt.
Sam saw the ever-shifting light of the rift they had open, he saw the people from the other world crossover one by one. He saw himself and Dean, Lucifer and finally Gabriel, his mouth set in a straight line, the most solemn Sam had ever seen him.
His heart sank before he even saw Michael land next to them, knowing what was going to happen and not being able to do a single thing to stop it.
“Gabriel, don’t,”
Sam could only watch as Lucifer and Michael fought, as Gabriel stepped forward and uttered those fateful words.
“All I did on Earth was run, I’m not running any more.”
Sam wanted to scream at him to run, that taking on Michael as weak as he was, was suicide, but no words came out. He could feel the  ferocious crackle of power as Michael and Gabriel came together, washing over him like a tidal wave of electricity.
It was over in a matter of minutes.
Sam cried out his name as he saw Michael’s blade hit home, gasping for breath as the smell of scorched feathers engulfed him, and he awoke with a start.
He was trembling, his sheets damp with sour smelling sweat, wound tightly around him like a tourniquet from where he’d tossed in his sleep.
It took Sam a moment to orient himself with where he was. The bunker was full of noise, the low chatter of people talking, snoring, grunting in their sleep, and after the relative silence he was used to, he heard every little sound. What he didn’t hear was what he wanted most.
“Hey, kiddo,”
Sam mopped a hand over his face, trying to drive the memory of Gabriel’s death from his mind. He tried to remind himself that they had thought Gabriel was dead once before, that he’d tricked all of them into believing it and that it was entirely possible he had pulled the same stunt he had last time. It was entirely possible, but Sam knew the truth in his heart.
He took a deep breath and held it, keeping the sob that was tickling the back of his throat trapped within him, until he had no choice but to breathe. Sam grabbed his pillow, holding it to his face as he cried, muffling the anguish that poured out of him like a burst pipe.
Gabriel was gone, and he wasn’t coming back.
I have a headcanon that the Horn of Gabriel exists outside of the sigil (a cheap imitation of the real thing). Gabriel has had it constantly on him since it was created. You never know when you’ll be called to kick-start the end of the world. (I don’t think he ever completely gave up hope that his father would return one day.) It can’t truly manifest on the human plane, so it takes the shape of whatever he wants it to, usually mundane objects.
I fucking love this artwork and this idea.
jossujb:
Nah, I don’t believe in Lucifer redemption arc, I have my hopes up for Lucifer REGRET ARC.
I see from the tear and some of the things he’s legit said and done lately that he /is/ becoming somewhat aware that he is the fucking disease of the world. And I want him to fester in it.
If he’s emotional and humanized through it, that’s great. It underlines what kinda monster he is. I want him to see what he is and not hide behind the facade of entitlement and narcissism.
I am not into you know, punishments too much. There’s this one good Finnish song about you know, spousal abuse and then murder from the victim’s perspective, when they say that well, I’m not brooding for revenge not am I bitter about it, I just can’t wait for you to come back to me in Hell.
That’s so empowering statement for me. No revenge, no bitterness – just wait and see, I am your personal Satan. That’s kinda what I want for Lucifer too. You don’t even deserve to be a victim for revenge, I want you to see what you are and think about it forever.
All of this. So. Hard
