I’m so ready for the phrase “but Dean is straaaaaaaight” to be flat out confirmed non-canon bullshit. Come on 2018.

It’s not like Dean is a professional liar and actively sublimates or that queer men his age in his era and with his background ever had issues with being queer so hide it. It’s not like the show has ever made moral, social political points about things like this.

It’s not like Dean’s ever hidden other things about himself that he likes that are against the toxically masculine facade he set up in the pilot which he has over the years totally dropped like music, love for friends and found family, romantic relationships, kids, hugs, books, dr sexy, freaking SHORTS.

It’s not like Dean has ever set up “I don’t like the thingy what are you insinuating?!” to then turn around like “fine ok I like the thing!”.

It’s not like it fits perfectly with the rest of his “coming out” story set up since the pilot of accepting himself fully for who he is by endgame.

“The show isn’t about romance and it would ruin it” – lmao did you miss how the premise of the show’s plot is the love and revenge of John/Mary and Sam/Jess?

In fact if Destiel was canonically romantic they wouldn’t have to focus on it so much in the subtext making the whole of the s11 mytharc plot make no sense without it, season 12 focusing and climaxing on it and season 13 focusing on it too.

It would literally make the show LESS about it if it was canon and they could focus on other things like idk SAM and his Lucifer arc. Without having an underlying Dean grieving for Cas so much he can’t see straight for 5 episodes and Sam needs to support him, Cas being manipulated by supernatural beings because of his perceived unrequieted love storylines taking up the bulk of the screen time.

It would actually be LESS a part of the show if it was canon because they wouldn’t have to work so hard to make it clear that it’s a thing and important even though it’s not canon yet by shoving it in every freaking plot point. I mean even the Lucifer / Jack and his dads arc has underlying Destiel going on. On top of Lucifer’s moments with Cas having an inevitable Dean moment of “yes I would also like to see you” stuff that is literally only there to build this romantic subtext and make you go “huh?!”. Asmodeus calling Sam instead of Dean and everyone, even the GA being like wtf that’s weird etc. The Empty being metaphorically all about Cas’ own perception of himself and talking about his unrequited love, there’s nothing for him back there. Dean being practically suicidal then bouncing back thanks to Cas. 

Destiel is already in the show, it can’t ruin the show if it’s canon because it’s already there and has been for 9 years!

They’d just say “im beat, going to bed, you coming?” or a funny “my partner” side-eyed joke somewhere when they’re posing as FBI agents and that’s it! Then they can move on to actual 100% plot points that don’t have Destiel subtext going on all over it to dilute it from it’s true plot point. 

So there’s literally no basis to “it would make the show about that” it already IS about that and way more than it’s likely to be once it’s canon cos then it’s DONE.
