FAQ I’ve been asked about Gabriel’s return

1: What’s your theory on how he’s alive?

Well, I’m an advocate of the Kali Blood Bond theory. In Hammer Of The Gods, Kali bound herself to Sam, Dean, and Gabriel to keep them from leaving her proximity. Thats why Gabriel sends Dean back in to get their blood. Once Gabriel “dies”, Sam and Dean took Kali elsewhere, probably had her break their vials, but didn’t really care what happened with Gabriel’s since he was “dead”.

Gabriel’s blood probably carried a nice little dose of grace and that could have brought him back after a little bit recharging time.

2: Okay, but where’s he been then?

Admittedly, I don’t have a super solid answer because I watched the ep at like 1am and my meta brain isn’t fully online. HOWEVER, I think Metatron found him in a weakened state, still hanging with Kali, wiped her out (sorry), and locked him up for later. I mean, I can’t ignore that look he had in Meta Fiction where he was like a caged bird.

Metatron, after everything went to shit, probably lost Gabriel or traded him or thought he died in some apocalypse or another. Thats how Asmo got a hold of him and has been keeping him as some sort of trump card until this exact thing came along.

3: How do we even know its Gabriel or OUR Gabriel?

Let me stop ya Norse nerds right there. Yes, the sewn lips is a thing that happened to Loki. However, don’t ya think that Asmo, prince of hell, might be able to tell if he’s dealing with a pagan or an archangel? Honestly, I think the sewn lips was just either Metatron or Crowley having a giggle and also making him shut up via Norse mythology.

As for OUR Gabriel? I can’t be certain, but don’t ya think AU Michael would have been keeping tabs on his baby bro? I feel like if Gabriel was able to sneak off, Michael would have been right behind him. We still don’t know how much of the AU lore matches with ours so we don’t know if Gabriel stayed in heaven or didn’t. Plus, I don’t think AU Gabriel would have the same vessel.

4: Your theories are stupid. I mean, you don’t even think Gabriel likes candy.

And is Gabriel the reason he’s got some “trickster-ish” powerups that Luci never gave him– like the shapeshifting and the mind-control… and the angelic smiting and booping powers…

I’m reeeeeally thinking Gabe’s been imprisoned since at least Metatron. No idea what all happened behind the scenes, but if Metatron was able to capture him, and then he somehow ended up in Hell’s prison…then Asmodeus wouldn’t have been the one to capture him…he’d just be taking over the jailer duties from…Crowley?

Pretty sure Gabe’s been down there a LOOOONG ASS TIME. And we know Crowley MADE Lucifer’s vessel Archangel-ready (more so than Nick was capable of being before). Soooo, maybe Metatron really WAS just using a projection and Crowley has had Gabe the whole time.

OR it’s AU!Gabriel who fled his world’s apocalypse bc he’s no more into fighting than OUR world’s Gabe. But imma go with this being OUR GABRIEL.

This is my thought too. In Meta Fiction, Gabriel had the appearance of someone who had been caged.

So Metatron had him, he appears to Cas and then… I’m thinking Metatron makes a deal/sells him to hell, and that’s when the torture begins. Having an archangel in your pocket is useful, so Crowley keeps him for a special occasion, and then Crowley goes down and he’s inherited by Asmodeous.

The lips thing makes me think there’s a pagan connection, as Loki’s lips being sewn shut for his tricky words is straight from mythology. It could be possible foreshadowing, of how he’s back/still alive, especially if Rich’s “Loki is Gabriel’s vessel” theory is true.

Now that I’ve gotten SOME sleep…

I’m less inclined to believe Metatron had him at all. I mean, he MAY have had Gabe and then sold him to Hell…but looking back at s11 and Metatron’s time with Chuck and the Winchesters, I think he would have mentioned something about Gabriel being alive.

It’s possible he wouldn’t say anything to the Winchesters initially for fear of their reaction, but if he was willing to sacrifice himself to stop Amara (Metatron, one of the most self-centered angels!) then he would likely mention the Archangel who might be used BEFORE they reached that point.

And even if he didn’t tell the boys, he would definitely bring it up to Chuck (who probably would have known anyway?).

OMG IM SO CONFUSED!! I wonder if whoever took Gabe did something to hide his presence…

This is a very valid point. I need to watch the episodes again, especially Hammer and Meta Fiction. Meta Fiction is what makes me think that Metatron may have initially had something to do with it.

But it’s also possible, that he was dead and was bright back recently, which could explain why no one sensed him, but the fact that Lucifer didn’t sense him in Hell makes me think there’s something else into it.

I think his sewn together lips might be a clue on how he was brought back. It’s a nod to Loki and I’d bet anything it’s some kind of foreshadowing.

Now, to get me through the pain of having to wait till Gabriel is set free from that awful-ness, I need so many Sabriel stories of Sam busting Gabe out and nursing him back to health, helping him with nightmares, and flashbacks, giving him all the love he needs after so many years of being trapped, letting Gabriel talk all he wants, cause you know not being able to talk has to be killing him, talking to him to help fill the silence. I need the fluff and comfort. I need something soft and soothing. I need a full chaptered story and not just one-shots.
