I´m thrilled that Lucifer is finally dead. That Sam and Dean killed him together. That Sam is, after everything, free of him forever.
So please read the following with a certain amount of irony:
Just take a moment and think of the whole Sam-Lucifer story from Lucifers POV.
Lucifer is this overly powerful being – there is hardly anybody who can withstand him. It took god and a few archangels to put him in the cage. Even from within the cage he was still powerful enough to get others to help him escape. There was this one, to Lucifer utterly unimportant demon – Ruby – who manipulated this human – Sam – into freeing him from the cage. Sam, a mere human, but a perfect vessel for Lucifer nevertheless.
I bet Lucifer had it planned a bit differently: Get out of the cage, get into his vessel, get the apocalypse going.
But then his vessel, Sam, has the audicity to withstand him. (And how did that minor demon Ruby even get him to cooperate? Because he, Lucifer, doesn´t seem to be able to.)
Sam withstands him for almost a year. And when he finally says yes, it´s only because he thinks he can overpower him. Sam doesn´t say yes because he feared him or because Lucifer talked a good game.
Uh, well, he said yes at last, and thats what count´s, right? Now lets get through with this apocalypse plans.
But this human actually overpowers him!!! Sam get´s him locked back up in the cage!
And then it doesn´t take long an Sam´s body is stolen from right under his nose!
At least, he´s got Sam´s soul to torture for all eternity. But what´s that? Sam´s sould is stolen out of the cage too!!! (By now he´s so pissed at Sam and everything Sam related.)
When the cage get´s damaged due to the release of the darkness, Lucifer see´s his chance to finally get the upper hand on Sam. He tricks him. And once he has him in the cage, he´ll surely get Sam to say yes? After all he spent nearly two hundred years torturing Sam. And he know´s Sam is absolutely terrified of him. He won´t have the guts anymore to withstand him, right?
But this little piece of shit does exactly that! He tells him NO again. What is it with Sam? He´s only human after all. Yet he keeps spitting in his face!
Next thing he knows, Sam overpowers him AGAIN, this thime with the help of some egg shaped magical device. Luckily other beings, such as Crowley, are stupid and weak enough for him to overpower. But why is it, that he constantly looses in fights against this one single human?
Maybe it´s time to leave this whole Sam issue behind an start to build his power up new from scratch. He could make a nephilim, a son.
So he does. But then steals his unborn child from him!!! And right when Jack is born, Sam and his stupid ass friends an family lock him up in a different AU! Away from his son.
Lucifer swears to himself he will find his son. And together they will rewrite history. They will change the world all to Lucifers liking.
But when he finally find´s Jack, Sam (again that hated Winchester, of course!) has poisoned his sons mind. Jack seems to be good! Ew.
Lucifer has to put a lot of effort and work into getting his son out of Sam´s hands and – even more important – to get him back on the evil path.
He almost succeeds, but Sam interferes – AGAIN!
The peak of all that humiliation is, when his own son decides against him and sides with the Winchester in front of his brother Michael.
Lucifer want´s revenge! He makes Sam and Jack fight. Whoever wins, both of them will suffer deeply. He will have at least a small victory. If Jack kills himself that´s all right as well. Sam will suffer nonetheless.
But then Dean/Michael appear. And he has to fight. Sam throws the angel sword up to Dean. And Dean kills him. He never stood a chance against Sam.
As I said – I ALMOST feel sorry for Lucifer. Beeing withstood and overpowered again and again and again from one mere human. How frustrating, how humiliating.
And in Jack’s final moment he says, “I love you” not to his father but to his father’s human vessel.
